Vortex

Bring your visual simulations to life with Vortex’s real-time physics-driven behaviour. Vortex puts your vehicles, robots, heavy equipment and more into high-fidelity synthetic environments for operator training, mission rehearsal, virtual prototyping and testing.

Vortex is ideally suited for simulating equipment that interacts with its environment, such as cranes, off-road vehicles and robots.

Physics for Your Virtual World

A highly flexible SDK, Vortex adds accurate physical motion and interactions to objects in visual-simulation applications. Vortex simulates rigid-body dynamics, collision detection, contact determination and dynamic reactions. It features modules to simulate physics-based particles, floating bodies, cable systems, grasping, and wheeled and tracked vehicles. Vortex easily integrates with industry-standard visualization frameworks such as OpenSceneGraph (OSG) and Vega Prime for a fully interactive 3D environment.

Based on the fundamental laws of physics, Vortex is optimized for real-time simulation, delivering both accuracy and high performance in numerous real-world applications. Vortex gives customers the robust toolkit and applied science they need to produce accurate simulations for operator training, mission planning, product concept validation, vehicle and robot testing, haptics device applications, immersive and virtual environments.

Vortex integrates the real-time simulation of wheeled and tracked vehicles with VxVehicles.

Complete Physics-driven Simulation Solution

Vortex is a comprehensive visual-simulation toolkit that provides a robust, physics-based framework for building virtual worlds of objects that interact with their environment and each other. It features multiple geometry types, real-time geometry collision detection, contact determination, and solves for collision response, as well as an extensive library of constraints, including multi-body constraints.

As well as the fully featured Vortex Core, Vortex includes numerous purpose-built modules for highly specialized simulation development: VxVehicles, VxCables, VxParticles, VxGrasp, VxSensors, and more. A proven commercial product, Vortex includes full documentation, upgrades and hotline support. Our expert team can help with all or part of your project requirements.

Multiple Industry Applications

With implementations in over 100 defence, commercial, education, and entertainment applications, Vortex is used by simulator integrators, OEMs, academic/research institutes and others. Typical Vortex implementations include:

  • Simulators for operator training, such as wheeled and tracked military vehicles, and heavy equipment in the construction, forestry, and mining industries
  • Simulations for mission-rehearsal applications, where equipment behaviour influences mission outcomes, such as virtual battlefields, large-scale construction scenarios, and other engineering-intensive operations
  • Virtual prototyping to validate vehicle and robotics designs, including development of robotics control systems that link actual control systems with virtual robots – autonomous or human-controlled – operating in virtual environments
  • Virtual testing applications to evaluate elaborate equipment and systems before committing to expensive acquisitions
